Our Child Life Specialists want to help empower your child with effective coping skills to face any medical experience with more ease and confidence.

PROCEDURAL SUPPORT


Sessions can often include

  • developmentally appropriate preparation for an upcoming medical/dental procedure or well visit such as surgery, lab draw, MRI, immunizations, teeth cleaning or exam

  • procedural support and coaching of distraction and relaxation techniques, guided imagery, etc

  • new diagnosis education and support for diabetes, cancer treatments, etc

COPING SUPPORT


Sessions can often include

  • individualized activities that encourage emotional expression and processing

  • coaching and rehearsal of distraction and relaxation techniques, guided imagery, mindfulness, etc.

  • support and interventions for coping with a sibling’s illness or disease

CAREGIVER SUPPORT


Sessions can often include

  • how best to advocate for and support your child for an upcoming procedure, surgery or well visit

  • tips and tricks for preparation and distraction

  • assisting children with medication compliance

  • new caregiver diagnosis education and support

  • guidance to support your child through transitions and other life stressors

GRIEF SUPPORT


Sessions can often include

  • grief and bereavement support for the death of a loved one or pet

  • caregiver guidance for answering difficult questions

  • providing age appropriate explanations about death and dying  

  • self awareness and healthy expression of feelings 

  • memory making

  • sibling support

  • resources for continued coping
